Update

August 2 2007, 2:04 PM

I should seriously make some time to work on a vector soon. I haven't done any personal designs for two months now. I've just been working...8:00-6:00 and sometimes 8:00-10:00 for my current job.

I don't know why I chose to be on salary instead of hourly, because I get absolutely no overtime compensation. And when I'm not at work, I'm on call anyway.

I've been overloaded with freelance too (which I work on after I get home from...work)  ... good thing I hired Kat and Rachael to lend some helping hands in that area. That will definitely be a load off.

One of my clients wants to hire my as a fulltime employee. If this falls through, I'm going to ask for $45k-$50k a year (which is about $22.50-$25 an hour). I just got a promotion at my current job, so I figure I can push my boundries a little bit.

Paypal is raping my ass. They froze my account after my last client payed me about  $3200. They said they "need to know more about my business." What total bullshit. They need me to confirm a shipping delivery tracking number. How am I supposed to ship a website? I told them that the product is intangible, and they still don't understand. They just wont work with me on this. The people I talk to have absolutely no control over it, and they said the people that DO have control over the situation do not accept calls. What the hell kind of service is that? I just told them to refund the money back to my client, and I'll find a different way for them to give me my commission. Bastards. I'm never using paypal again.

Joe, my boyfriend is thinking about moving closer to the OC. He currently lives in the San Diego area which is an hour's drive from here. He works mostly in the OC, so I guess he thought it would be a smart idea. Doesnt matter if I have been suggesting it for a year now. This will cut down on so much mileage for me, which is good, especially because I'll be getting a new car in about a week (depending on if Paypal can get their act together). Plus he wont think I'm too needy anymore because he'll be more available to me, which means everytime I see him I wont feel like I havent seen him for two weeks (probably because i usually dont see him for more than once every two weeks). I dont think I'll be so clingy by then.

Need to take a break

July 15 2007, 2:40 AM

I've been working nonstop now for the past month. I think I need to try and make some time for some non-work related stuff. I spend 8:00AM-5:00PM most days at my fulltime job. Other days, I have to stay extra hours to help the development team program the new site. After I come home from work, I sit down at the computer and do all my contract work. I finally lay down for bed at around 2 AM.

All this work and im flat broke. I opened a new account with WaMu, and I deposited my first paycheck there but for the first month, I have to wait for my checks to clear for a week so I don't even have access to the shitload of money I actually have.

At least I'm done with this freelance gig. I'll probably get around $3,300-4000 from them depending on how long it takes me to build out the design.

I just cant wait to go shopping. I havent been shopping in so long. I'm in desperate need of summer clothes and work clothes. And I'm getting my hair cut first chance I get too. Im gonna dye it burgandy with red highlights and get some thick bangs.

That check will probably clear on Monday. All I can do now is wait for the money to start rolling in.

First day

June 26 2007, 2:59 AM

First day on the job, and already I'm being sent to LA tomorrow and wont be back until Wednesday night.

Greeeatt.

People are nice though. The guy I work with is funny. Work is easy. A little too easy. But there's a lot of it so it balances out. Great benefits. I even get a free membership at 24hour fitness.

Job Interview Week

May 22 2007, 8:46 PM

I've got interviews all lined up this week, which is good and bad news for me. I kind of wanted to take this week off since my family will be in boston. I was gonna stay with my boyfriend, but if I have interviews all week then I need to stay in Orange County. On the bright side, I've got some really good options here as far as jobs come.

My favorite? Road Trip Nation. ( http://roadtripnation.com ) It's a TV show on PBS about a bunch of people that go on road trips in these giant green RVs and interview all these inspiring and successful people. Their site's not half bad. I'll be interviewing for a Graphic Designer position.

On the fence is a temp to hire position for enCircle Media. They might be a little too corporate for me, and I'm more of a laid back kind of gal. If i do accept the job and get hired as a fulltime employee, I'll be the senior designer once they start hiring more designers in a few months. Which means I'll have all these people working under me in the future and my title gets changed to Art Director. (They're a startup company that's just starting to hire people for their art department.) For now they just want me to do their website over again so they can get a feel for me. If they like how I work, they'll hire me as a fulltime employee. I don't really know how I feel about this; it's not the most ideal of situations.

And the one job I'm neither excited or not excited about is a designer position at WebAdvanced (http://webadvanced.com). They're a small webfirm based in Irvine. I looked at their work so far and I'm not really impressed. I dont want it to become another MyWebTeam experience for me but nothing can be worse then what I've been going through at MaiMedia ( the most boring job ever ).

All these jobs will pay at least 40,000 a year which is more than enough for a 20 yr old chick that still lives with her parents. What's really important is the health benefits available, because I reeaallyyy need some health insurance right now.
